STEP FuturAbility District, the space dedicated to exploring and understanding the future, will open its doors to the public on 15 and 16 November 2025 for an open weekend dedicated to “Future Jobs,” an installation that allows visitors to explore the transformations of the job market and discover emerging professions.

Three years after its opening, the installation has been completely renewed with ten new professions. The goal is to capture new trends in the world of work and keep the content constantly updated. The experience is designed to evolve over time, progressively integrating new sectors and emerging roles through research and analysis conducted together with STEP’s partners.

Inside the exhibition room, visitors are welcomed by illuminated silhouettes that can be activated via smartphone. Through these, they can select a professional area of interest among those available: Advanced Healthcare, New Space, Digital Tech, Smart Mobility and Infrastructure, Green Tech, and Next-Gen Manufacturing. Within each area, STEP presents several newly defined professional profiles.

The experience unfolds dynamically, offering visitors multiple opportunities to explore four key dimensions: the challenges specific to each profession, the skills required, the personal aptitudes needed, and the enabling technologies.

The hyper-realistic avatars, designed based on gender and ethnic distribution analyses, ensure an inclusive representation in which every visitor can see themselves reflected. Every detail—from facial features to clothing—has been carefully crafted to create an authentic and empathetic interaction, while sophisticated motion-capture techniques ensure natural movements and expressiveness.

The professional profiles range from biotechnology to mobility, from energy to cybersecurity, including 3D bioprinting scientists, artificial intelligence specialists for healthcare, environmental designers, air and space mobility managers, sustainable energy technicians, cybersecurity analysts, and human-machine mediators. Each avatar has been designed to establish a direct and engaging connection with visitors.

At the end of the experience, based on the interactions carried out during the visit, participants will receive personalized guidance in their MySTEP personal area, suggesting study paths in Italy and abroad that best match their interests and inclinations.

“With ‘Future Jobs,’ we have transformed the installation into an interactive and immersive experience where visitors can concretely explore emerging professions and the skills required by the evolving job market. The hyper-realistic avatars and innovative content guide visitors in identifying the most suitable sectors and educational paths, offering a glimpse into the professions of tomorrow and the skills that will shape the future of work. In this way, STEP continues to play an active role in education and outreach, providing tangible tools to help younger generations navigate and understand the future of work,” said Cristina Paciello, Head of STEP.

The update of “Future Jobs” was developed through cross-functional collaboration within STEP, with the contribution of Autostrade per l’Italia as Innovation Infrastructure Partner and Bracco as Scientific Partner, who respectively oversaw the development of the Designer of Intelligent Infrastructures and Longevity Technologies Specialist roles. The project was realized in collaboration with Clonwerk S.r.l.
