On Thursday, May 29, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM, STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti, 1 – Milan), the space dedicated to exploring new technologies and understanding the future, will host the screening of I, Robot (2004), directed by visionary filmmaker Alex Proyas and starring the charismatic Will Smith. The event is part of Tech, si gira!, STEP’s film series dedicated to exploring scientific and technological themes through the lens of cinema.

Set in a future where robots are part of everyday life, I, Robot tackles increasingly relevant issues: the decision-making autonomy of machines, the role of artificial intelligence in society, and the ethical dilemmas that arise from it. A compelling story that invites reflection on the relationship between humans and intelligent systems, between technological progress and responsibility.

The screening will be followed by an in-depth discussion with Giulia Belgiovine, researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology and expert in social robotics, and Salvatore Majorana, director of the Kilometro Rosso innovation district. The guests will offer their interpretation of the film’s themes, with a close look at the scientific, industrial, and ethical implications of artificial intelligence and advanced robotics.

“Tech, si gira!” – A series of conversations between cinema and the future

Following the great success of its first edition – which welcomed over 1,200 attendees and addressed key topics such as robotics and artificial intelligence – Tech, si gira! returns with a new selection of cult and visionary films, broadening the focus to include new technological and social challenges, including climate change and space economy technologies. With this initiative, STEP aims to become a reference point for exploring the complexity of the technological world through cinema.

Each screening will be followed by an open discussion with the audience, moderated by Massimo Temporelli, science communicator and curator of the series, together with experts in the field, scientists, journalists, and academics, with the aim of building a bridge between cinematic storytelling and contemporary scientific and technological reality. The series offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the technological future and spark dialogue on pressing current issues.
