Presented today in Rome, at the Chamber of Deputies, the new podcast by the State Police and Chora Media, in collaboration with Fastweb + Vodafone, which tells the true story of a group of young women whose images were used to create pornographic deepfakes, starting from the account of one of them.
The launch event took place in the Sacristy Hall of the Vicolo Valdina Complex, in the presence of Hon. Martina Semenzato, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into femicide and all forms of gender-based violence. Speakers included Ivano Gabrielli, Senior Executive of the State Police and Director of the Postal and Cybersecurity Police Service, Walter Renna, CEO of Fastweb + Vodafone, Sara Poma, Editorial Lead of Chora & Will content, and Camilla Ferrario, Author at Chora & Will.
Written and narrated by author Camilla Ferrario, the podcast tells, over five episodes, a real-life story, exploring it from different perspectives and enriching it with contributions and insights from industry experts, with the aim of giving a voice back to the protagonists of the story and offering concrete support to all those who, directly or indirectly, may find themselves involved in situations of digital violence, a phenomenon that can significantly compromise freedom and rights, with serious psychological, social and economic consequences.
“This initiative is very important because it helps translate the experience of the Committee I chair and the strand of investigation dedicated to the digital dimension into a concrete tool. The new form of online gender-based violence is real violence in every respect, insidious and devastating, with serious psychological and social repercussions, which requires early digital education and cultural recognition of the virtual space as a space of relationships. We must learn to recognize the signs of digital violence and not remain silent, but report it. In addressing online violence, the themes of responsibility, transparency and identity also remain fundamental. A step forward has been made with Law 132/2025, in particular with Article 612-quater of the Criminal Code (Unlawful dissemination of AI-generated content), which punishes with imprisonment from one to five years anyone who, without consent, disseminates deepfakes (images, videos, voices) created with AI that are capable of deceiving and causing unjust harm,” said Hon. Martina Semenzato, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into femicide and all forms of gender-based violence.
“Online gender-based violence affects real people, deeply impacting their rights, dignity and psychological well-being, and the internet, with its ability to spread and resurface images and content over time, can further amplify this impact, with even very serious consequences. For this reason, the prevention and fight against this phenomenon represent an ongoing commitment for the Postal Police: it is essential to raise awareness by providing concrete tools to promptly recognize the signs of these forms of violence, which may also represent
further manifestations of persecutory or aggressive behavior beyond the digital sphere,” stated Ivano Gabrielli, Director of the Postal and Cybersecurity Police Service.
“Combating gender-based violence means taking concrete responsibility: building safe work environments, providing support tools, training people and promoting a culture of respect also in digital spaces. For years we have been investing with determination in initiatives to prevent and combat all forms of violence, both online and offline, also through internal policies that support individuals and their families,” said Walter Renna, CEO of Fastweb + Vodafone.
