January once again brings a new edition of the scientific and cultural programme at STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti 1), the innovative space designed to connect people with the future, offering everyone the opportunity to better understand the ongoing digital revolution and discover how to become active participants in it.

On Tuesday 13 January, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, the workshop “Who Has the Final Say: Humans or Machines?” will explore the growing challenge to human centrality in the age of artificial languages, synthetic images and autonomous agents. The session will be led by Cosimo Accoto, philosopher of technology, Research Affiliate at MIT in Boston, lecturer and author of an acclaimed trilogy on digital civilisation, as well as the recent essay Il Pianeta Latente (Egea, 2024).

On Tuesday 20 January, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, the workshop “How AI Understands, Decides and Acts: A Journey into the World of Agents” will guide the audience through the inner workings of contemporary AI agents, uncovering the hidden mechanisms that govern their behaviour. The session offers an in-depth look at how today’s agents actually function – not to mythologise them or downplay them, but to demystify their “magic” and understand the logic, promises and scientific limits that define their present and will shape their future. The speaker will be Claudio Stamile, PhD, MBA, Manager of AI R&D and Market Solutions at Fastweb+Vodafone, where he coordinates enterprise projects based on generative AI, proprietary LLM architectures and scalable, controlled agent-based systems.

On Wednesday 28 January, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, the workshop “Something Went Wrong” will trace the evolution of the web, from the promise of “tech democracy” to the algorithmic distortions of the digital economy, questioning when and why the idea of a shared future began to fracture. The session will be led by Riccardo Luna, journalist and columnist for Corriere della Sera, former editor-in-chief of Wired Italy and curator of major events such as Stazione Futuro, Maker Faire, Italian Tech Week and Venice Climate Week.

STEP FuturAbility District is a technological, educational and experiential space created to connect the community with the future. It offers an approximately one-hour visitor journey designed to help audiences understand the ongoing digital transformation and its impact on everyday personal and professional life. The space is dedicated to exploring new technologies and promoting an inclusive digital society, where everyone can acquire the tools and skills needed to build their future with awareness and confidence.
