STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti 1), the innovative hub designed to connect people with the future, continues its science and culture programming this June. A place where everyone can gain a deeper understanding of the ongoing digital revolution and learn how to play an active role in it, STEP is set to host three new workshops this month, covering topics from artificial intelligence to energy sustainability and the emerging careers linked to space exploration.
On Tuesday, June 10, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the workshop “POV: You Save the Planet” will take place, marking the fourth installment of the FutureLab: Jobs That Will Change the World series, developed in collaboration with Focus. Led by science communicator Giacomo Moro Mauretto, the event will spotlight the evolution of professions focused on biodiversity conservation and life sciences—at a time when sustainability is among the most urgent challenges of our future.
The workshop will offer an overview of emerging careers that merge biology, technology, and innovation: from Biodiversity Data Scientists, who use AI to monitor ecosystems, to Restoration Ecologists working on environmental recovery, and Biomimicry Designers who draw inspiration from nature to create sustainable solutions. A journey through the new generation of professionals who will lead the ecological transition in the years to come.
Giacomo Moro Mauretto, a biologist and one of the most compelling voices in Italy’s new wave of science communication, will guide the audience in discovering how scientific expertise—combined with design and social sciences—is shaping a new class of “green” professions. An opportunity to reflect on how to prepare today for the jobs of tomorrow, where science and environmental awareness will go increasingly hand in hand.
On Tuesday, June 17, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the workshop “Space: A New Opportunity for Innovation and Growth” will take place, organized in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), STEP’s Knowledge Partner. The event will provide an in-depth look at the potential of the space economy, now one of the most dynamic and promising sectors globally, with tangible impacts on the economy, regions, and everyday life.
With a global value exceeding $500 billion—set to double by 2040—the new space economy brings together universities, startups, industries, and forward-thinking regions. Advanced technologies such as satellites, environmental monitoring tools, and communication systems are revolutionizing key sectors like agriculture, logistics, and energy.
The workshop will be led by Giulia Piacentini, a Consultant at BCG with extensive experience in the Aerospace & Defense sector. Holding a PhD in Automation Engineering and a background as a System Engineer, Piacentini will explore how the space economy is not only a technological frontier but also a strategic driver for sustainable development, industrial innovation, and job creation.
