On Thursday, October 23, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM, STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti, 1 – Milan), the space dedicated to exploring new technologies and understanding the future, will host a screening of the film The Matrix (1999), directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, starring Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne.
The Matrix is not only a science fiction film but also a work that redefined how cinema explores the relationship between technology and humanity. The film combines elements of cyberpunk, philosophy, and action, immersing the viewer in a dystopian universe where reality is an illusion generated by machines in control. The film impresses with its innovative visual effects and complex narrative, raising profound questions about the nature of existence and the human-technology relationship.
The evening will feature Cristina Pozzi and Michele Rho. Cristina Pozzi focuses on future scenarios, particularly artificial intelligence and education. She co-founded and led non-profit and for-profit organizations such as Wish Days, Impactscool, and Edulia, aiming to bring people closer to the major transformations of our time. She is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum (2019–2024) and an European Young Leader (2020), and writes for the World Economic Forum’s Agenda, Corriere della Sera, and Sette.
Michele Rho, trained in theatrical directing at the Paolo Grassi School of Dramatic Arts and a Columbia University graduate, works in cinema, television, and advertising. His first film, Cavalli (Rai Cinema, Lucky Red), was presented at the 68th Venice Film Festival. He directed the documentary Mexico! Un cinema alla riscossa (2017) and, in 2024, Benvenuti in Galera. He is also a founder of the radio project Radio Raheem.
This event is part of “Tech, Lights, Camera!”, STEP’s film series dedicated to exploring scientific and technological themes through cinema. Each screening is followed by a public discussion moderated by Massimo Temporelli, Scientific Director and curator of the series, together with industry experts, scientists, journalists, and academics. The series offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the technological future and stimulate debate on highly relevant topics.
“Tech, Lights, Camera!” – A series of conversations between cinema and the future
Following the success of the first edition, which involved over 1,200 participants and addressed topics such as robotics and artificial intelligence, the series returns with a new selection of cult and visionary films, expanding the focus on contemporary technological and social challenges, from climate change to space economy technologies. STEP continues to serve as a key point of reference for exploring the complexities of the technological world through cinema.
