On Thursday, April 17, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM, STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti 1, Milan) — the space designed to explore themes related to new technologies and help people navigate a rapidly changing world — will host the screening of Siccità (2022), directed by Paolo Virzì. The screening is part of the “Tech, si gira!” film series, which is included in STEP’s scientific and cultural programming. The initiative aims to explore the complexity of the technological world through the lens of cinema.

Siccità is a choral film that depicts a near-future Rome caught in the grip of a prolonged water crisis. In an Italy marked by water scarcity and shifting social dynamics, the film reflects a global climate crisis that tests the resilience of cities and citizens alike. Climate change, resource scarcity, and the search for technological and scientific solutions become the

common thread in this powerful narrative suspended between realism and dystopia.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Elisa Palazzi, climatologist and professor of Climate Physics at the University of Turin, and Luciano Canova, economist and science communicator. Together, they will explore the film’s central themes, offering tools to better understand the connections between science, economics, politics, and a sustainable future.

“Tech, si gira!” – A series of conversations between cinema and the future

Following the success of its first edition, which drew more than 1,200 attendees and explored key topics such as robotics and artificial intelligence, “Tech, si gira!” returns with a new selection of visionary and cult films. This year, the series expands its focus to include new technological and social challenges such as climate change and space economy technologies. Through this initiative, STEP aims to become a reference point for exploring the complexities of the tech-driven world through cinema.

Each screening will be followed by a public discussion moderated by Massimo Temporelli, scientific director and curator of the series, joined by sector experts, scientists, journalists, and academics. The program offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the future of technology and to stimulate dialogue on some of today’s most pressing issues.
