In March, the scientific and cultural program of STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti 1, Milan)—the innovative space for connecting with the future where everyone can better understand the ongoing digital revolution and learn how to become active participants—is enriched with new events featuring exceptional speakers.

On Tuesday, March 4, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the workshop “Edible Electronics” will take place. During this event, the discussion will focus on how ingestible electronics can have a positive impact on our daily lives. Thanks to advances in research, natural materials can now be transformed into components for innovative devices – including the world’s first rechargeable and edible battery. This revolutionary development could find applications in monitoring food quality, in diagnostic tools for health, and even in edible robots. Valerio Francesco Annese, a researcher at the “Printed and Molecular Electronics” research unit of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), will be the guest speaker, recounting the journey that led to the creation of these cutting-edge technologies and discussing their future potential. This workshop is organized in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology, a partner of STEP FuturAbility District.

Then, on Wednesday, March 12, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, STEP will host the second meeting of its Artificial Intelligence series, titled “AI in 90 Minutes – AI and Creativity: Digital Art for Everyone.” During this session, the potential of artificial intelligence platforms for imaging and their impact on the world of creativity will be explored. These technologies enable the creation of astonishing images and visual content even without specific artistic skills. Participants will learn how to leverage these tools to emulate artistic styles and experiment with innovative visual languages. Eugenio Spagnuolo, journalist and AI communicator for Il Corriere della Sera as well as a lecturer on digital topics at various institutions and companies, will guide the audience on a practical and theoretical journey to discover the potential of generative AI in digital art.

On Tuesday, March 18, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the FutureLab series kicks off with the event “Prof, What Will I Do When I Grow Up?”, a meeting dedicated to the professions of the future developed in collaboration with Focus. As technological transformations are reshaping the professional landscape—creating new opportunities and profoundly changing traditional roles—Professor Vincenzo Schettini, renowned science communicator and creator of the format “La Fisica che ci piace,” will explore the key skills required in the coming decades, from critical thinking to creativity, from emotional intelligence to continuous learning. Through concrete examples and future scenarios, Schettini will illustrate how to prepare for emerging professions and maintain curiosity in an ever-evolving world.

Finally, on Monday, March 24, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the workshop “Big Data, AI, and Precision Medicine: Where Do We Stand?” will be held in collaboration with Bracco, Scientific Partner of STEP. Ten years after the launch of the USA precision medicine project, this session will focus on the impact of artificial intelligence and big data analysis in the healthcare sector. New technologies are revolutionizing personalized medicine, enabling more accurate diagnoses and targeted therapies. The event will feature speakers including Enzo Grossi, a Medical Surgeon and Gastroenterology Specialist with over 20 years of experience in AI applied to medical issues, Fulvio Ferrara, an expert in molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine, and Caterina A. M. La Porta, a Full Professor of General Pathology. They will provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities of this scientific revolution, exploring both the potential and the limitations of new technologies in the medical field.
