STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti 1), the innovative space designed to help people connect with the future, renews its monthly calendar of science and culture events for May. Once again, the program offers a series of engaging workshops aimed at making the ongoing digital revolution more accessible, with a special focus on how individuals can become active players in shaping tomorrow. This month’s lineup features three new workshops exploring topics from artificial intelligence to energy sustainability, and emerging careers tied to space exploration.
On Tuesday, 6 May, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, the workshop “AI in 90 Minutes – Smart Research for Study, Exploration, and Leisure” will take place as the third event in the AI-focused series. Hosted by journalist and science communicator Eugenio Spagnuolo, the session will delve into the role of generative AI in transforming the way we search for information and engage with content—whether for work, study, or personal interests. Through a hands-on approach, participants will learn how to use advanced language models to identify and analyze trustworthy sources, making their research more effective and insightful.
On Tuesday, 13 May, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, the spotlight will shift to the environmental impact of digital technologies with “How Much Energy Does AI Consume? The Data Center Challenge”, a workshop developed in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), STEP’s Knowledge Partner. The event will examine the growing energy demands of AI and the pivotal role of data centers, which lie at the heart of digital transformation and are set to expand rapidly in the coming years. Italy is emerging as a key European hub for this infrastructure, but sustainable growth will require a well-defined strategic vision. The discussion will be led by Giulia Scerrato, Project Leader at BCG and an expert in global energy strategies.
On Tuesday, 20 May, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, the focus will turn to the future of work with “Space Jobs”, the third event in the FutureLab series developed in partnership with Focus magazine. As the space race evolves, it is opening the door to new and unexpected career opportunities—from space biology to astro-law, and even Martian agriculture. Science communicator Luca Perri will guide the audience through this fascinating frontier, highlighting the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the fast-growing space industry where science, technology, and sustainability intersect.
