On Thursday, September 11, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, STEP FuturAbility District (Piazza Adriano Olivetti, 1 – Milan), the space dedicated to exploring new technologies and understanding the future, will host a screening of the film Apollo 11 (2019), directed by Todd Douglas Miller. The screening takes the audience on an immersive journey into the historic space mission that took humans to the Moon. Through previously unreleased archival footage, high-definition restored films, and original NASA recordings, the documentary conveys the intensity, tension, and emotion of one of humanity’s most iconic moments. With no interviews or external narration, the images and sounds of the era speak for themselves, offering a unique visual and auditory experience that puts viewers at the center of this groundbreaking achievement.
The event is part of “Tech, si gira!”, STEP’s film series exploring scientific and technological themes through cinema.
The evening will feature Emilio Cozzi, journalist, author, and science communicator, and Simonetta Di Pippo, astrophysicist and academic, who will guide the audience through a journey across the past, present, and future of space exploration. Discussions will cover the contemporary significance of space missions, commercial challenges, new opportunities in the space economy, and technological implications of a new era in spaceflight.
The discussion offers the public a unique opportunity to engage directly with international experts and reflect on the future of space exploration, blending visionary insights, technological innovation, and global cooperation.
“Tech, si gira!” – Conversations Between Cinema and the Future
After the great success of its first edition, which attracted over 1,200 attendees and explored key topics such as robotics and artificial intelligence, “Tech, si gira!” returns with a new selection of cult and visionary films. The series expands its focus to include emerging technological and social challenges, including climate change and space economy technologies. Through this film series, STEP establishes itself as a hub for exploring the complexity of the technological world via cinema. Each screening is followed by a public discussion moderated by Massimo Temporelli, STEP’s Scientific Director and curator of the series, alongside sector experts, scientists, journalists, and academics. The series provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the technological future and stimulate debate on highly relevant topics.
