Artificial Intelligence: Fastweb+Vodafone Among the First Companies in Europe to Sign the European Code of Conduct for General-Purpose AI Models
FastwebMIIA language model fully compliant with the AI Act—two years ahead of the regulatory deadline
press release

Fastweb+Vodafone is among the first companies to sign the Code of Conduct issued by the European Commission for the safe and transparent development of general-purpose AI models.

The Code – whose signature requires full compliance with the principles adopted by the European Union – sets out the obligations that providers must meet to ensure AI models are safe, transparent, and in line with copyright regulations.

Joining the Code of Conduct is part of a broader set of compliance initiatives that, over the past year, have positioned Fastweb+Vodafone among the first companies in Europe to achieve ISO 42001 certification. This marks another milestone in the company’s strategy to create a technology ecosystem that combines security, transparency, and full data control, and demonstrates the strength of its governance and compliance model—based on reliable processes that are compliant by design and ahead of the highest international standards set by the European Commission.

Since 2024, Fastweb+Vodafone has been actively involved in drafting the Code, working in collaboration with the European Commission.

Thanks in part to this work, FastwebMIIA, Fastweb+Vodafone’s proprietary large language model natively trained in Italian using data from authoritative sources, has been developed by design in compliance with the requirements of the AI Act and is already compliant with the Code of Conduct two years ahead of the deadlines set by the Regulation. While the AI Act provisions for general-purpose AI models will apply starting from 2 August 2025, existing models on the market will not be required to comply until August 2027.

FastwebMIIA powers FastwebAI Suite, the platform of generative AI services and tools for businesses and public administrations launched by Fastweb+Vodafone in late May. In line with the company’s AI governance model, all solutions within FastwebAI Suite are end-to-end and run on sovereign infrastructure in Italy. Leveraging state-of-the-art national data centers, the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD supercomputer operational since last July, the FastwebMIIA language model, and cloud, edge computing, and cybersecurity platforms designed to ensure maximum protection, FastwebAI Suite guarantees full compliance with the AI Act.
