Milan, April 24, 2026. Fastweb is Official Sponsor and Technical Partner of the Italian Luna Rossa team in view of the 38th edition of the America's Cup, the most prestigious sailing competition in the world that - for the first time in its 176-year history - will be held in Italy, in Naples, in 2027. As a Technical Sponsor, Fastweb will create dedicated 5G coverage in the Gulf of Cagliari and in that of the Gulf of Naples using 5G “slicing” technology, one of the main characteristics of 5G Standalone (5G SA), which allows it to provide personalized coverage and performance, effectively adapting to articulated operating contexts. The Sardinian capital, in fact, hosts the team's headquarters and is home to the first preliminary regatta, while Naples will be the official venue of the 38th America's Cup.
The coverage will allow Luna Rossa to transmit valuable information to the offices on the ground in almost real time: telemetry data during regattas and videos during training. This will further speed up operations on board, helping to provide an additional benefit to the entire crew. The technology will ensure low latency and high transmission capacity for the entire affected area.
The project will be implemented in the Gulf of Cagliari by May 2026 for the first preliminary regatta, while by the summer, the network will also be built in the area relating to the Gulf of Naples, which will be used during the 38th edition of the America's Cup.
“We are very happy to have Fastweb as a technical partner for the 38th America's Cup,” said Gilberto Nobili, Technology and Operations Manager at Luna Rossa. “This is a leading Italian company in the telecommunications sector and having it by our side will allow us to optimize data transmission and communications between the boat and our technical offices. Know that you can count on a reliable and powerful network and on the know-how of a leading brand how Fastweb is of fundamental importance in a complex and highly technological challenge such as the America's Cup”.
“Participation in one of the most ambitious sports projects ever carried out in Italy stems from a shared vision: to express excellence by providing advanced network technologies such as dedicated 5G and know-how - said Max Gasparroni, Chief Technology & Security Officer of Fastweb + Vodafone - As part of this collaboration, we will provide Luna Rossa with cutting-edge tools for performance analysis, real-time communication and optimization of every phase of navigation, helping to create an ecosystem in which technology, sport and human intelligence are integrated to reach new levels of performance. A partnership that confirms our commitment to innovation and the country's digital transition.”
